My Code of Ethics Vs Time Management

My code of conduct
To observe and know myself better, these are the Rules that I am following. Everyone will have a different code of conducts and I think this is so important as a guidance of our lives.

Family
-Accept their phone call and call back as soon as possible when I am busy.
-Spend time chatting with them every day. If nave no time that day, just say “I Love You” to mother  before sleeping as these 3 words are the most powerful among all.
Friends
-Attend all the gatherings unless they crash with important events.
-Do not cancel appointment with friends in last-minute.
-Try to remember their birthday and send a wish.
In Chinese, we say that “there are no gatherings which last forever”. Thus, it is normal that sometimes some friends just pass by in my life. However, the moment will be in the heart maybe forever.
Studies
-Attend all the classes unless it crashes certain events which are more important.
-Pass all the subjects and no repeating paper allowed.
-Meet assignment deadlines and last-minute work is allowed with average quality.
Actually, getting good results might show something but do not guarantee everything. Thus, besides studying, I think we should fully use this studying period to grow in many different areas, including communication skills, time management skills, interpersonal skills and so on. There are so much things that we should learn but not just about studying.
Business
-Just open mouth to ask if anyone interested in buying because I have no loss if they don’t want but I gain something if they want. Continuous doing with consistency is a key factor to succeed.
-Do not force and do not show bad emotions when they do not need anything because they have right and still they are potential future customers.
Entertainment
-Spend minimum money on entertainment and the money can be used in many other more useful methods.
Food
-Eat healthy and simple in 80% of the time and eat what I like in 20% of time.
-Start my day with nutritious simple breakfast every day.
-Never never never skip any meal. Health is the most important asset in my life.
Basically, food has two functions which are to provide necessary nutrients body needs and to give certain kind of "satisfaction" for human. So, it is not just about eating what we like but we need to eat enough what our bodies NEED.

Everyone is having own code of ethics but it differs from person to person. I always found that what people really care about most of the time are always themselves. For example, when we look at class photo, most people will first find himself in the picture before looking at others. We can say that everyone is self-interest-oriented and we have to accept it. It has nothing wrong to be self-interest-oriented because everyone has to take responsibility of themselves and others have no need to take care of you. However, we must be as ethical as possible at the same time when we are self-interest-oriented.

For me, I believe in growth-oriented, self-interest-oriented, family-oriented, friend-oriented,goal-oriented and good- future-oriented. When we care about so much things but not just ourselves, then we need to find a balance among all factors. The basic way to maintain the balance is spend our precious time with all of them, learning, family, friends, goals and myself and the key is the TIME MANAGEMENT SKILL. Everyone is busy but how do you arrange your time and use it wisely?
As what I have learnt from a time management workshop, the five tips are :
1. Plan well and stick to it
For example, when we postpone one thing, then other things will be affected as well. And if we        manage to stick to plan , everything will go smoothly.
2. Learn to say 'NO'
Don't take on more than you can handle.
3. Do the most important thing first
Since we cannot do everything, we should learn to prioritise the important tasks and let go the rest.
4. Eliminate time wasters
There are so many people keep spending precious time on facebook, twitter, movies and is that really helpful to your studies or career? or just to kill your time?
5. Use a timetable and Calender
Having a calender is the most fundamental step to manage our daily, weekly and monthly activities.

Again, choice is always still in your hand! However, we need to keep this in mind- Who we are now is a result of what we have done in past 5 years, so if we are not going to change on our behavior, our attitude, our mindset, then don't expect that after 5 years 'magic' or differences will happen to us.

As a nutshell, according to my code of ethics, I have quite many things to do and the key factor is the time management. Everyone has the same amount of time-24 hours in a day and 365 days in a year. The good news is we have a choice to decide on how to spend our time.  Time=Money, use time wisely, 11/7/2013 is not going to come back. When it pass, it really does pass. Let's treat everyday as a start of our lives, Start our new journey RIGHT NOW!

Who is being Ethical to Family Members?

Who is being Ethical to Family Members?

When we evaluate ethical level of an organization, we concern on whether it brings benefits to and society, whether it harm our nature, whether it is safe to be consumed and so on. So, maybe we can evaluate a person’s ethical level based on the same perspectives, whether she or he is contributing to society, whether she or he bring harm to our nature and whether she or he is threatening others’ safety.

As we know, companies are just companies, what they bring to us is controlled by the people in the companies. Thus, if all the people in the company are ethical, then the company will be an ethical company. And, if the person is being ethical in the company, definitely he or she will be ethical to his or her family. So, we can conclude that a person who is ethical to family will probably being ethical in company. If he cannot be ethical to his family, then we cannot expect him to be ethical to our society. Thus, it is an interesting topic when we look at a person’s personality and his behavior towards his family. It is because most people treat their family in a straight-forward and real way. For example, a student might be very helpful and kind to his teacher and classmates but being very rude to parents. So when we want to know whether a person is kind, we can observe how he treats his family in terms of language, tone, responds and eye-contact.

A few days ago, I visited my grandma who is almost 90 years old. She has been so hardworking and help taking good care of her granddaughter and grandson. And now, the granddaughter grows up and become an adult, she is taking good care of my grandma recently. Although my grandma keep asking her for help when she wants to go to washroom or anything, she is so kind to help the grandma until she herself cannot have enough sleep at night.  However, my grandma is being transferred from one house to one house because she is quite annoying and likes to complain and everyone is too busy and do not have time to look after her. And some of her sons claim themselves have no time to visit her because of heavy workloads, and unfortunately my father is one of them. This is a really sad things happen everywhere. Many parents told their own parents that they have no time to go back hometown while many children do not want to take responsibility on what they should do.

One of my relatives give his daughter more than RM1000 as monthly expenses but only sends her mother RM200 monthly. Many mothers allow their children to have branded watch, expensive clothes, enjoy entertainment but expecting their parents spend within the budget RM200. Yes, we know that mothers should take care of children but how about their parents who brought them up? So, nowadays, people are smarter and know that they have to think about their life after retirement.

I remembered a very interesting view by my teacher, Diamond Daniel Liew, he said, “ Don’t look for a girlfriend before you are able to take care of yourself”. This is very true that some boys look for girlfriends using parents’ money and buy sweet house using parents’ money and so on. I always notice that when my friend’ s parents save a lot on their expenses for children while the children are spending so much on unnecessary things. However, I have a good friend which is the best example among my friends. She is a student in Help college who earns more than RM2000 monthly by teaching piano lessons and book-keeping tuition. She is only 21 years old and already bought a car by installment and she is serious in her studies and maintain good results. She treats her parents so nice and willing to be their driver whenever they need her. She is so good in time management and maintains good self-discipline.

In my opinion, as a student from not so rich family, there are something that we should do:
First, instead of suffering our parents, we try to lower expenses and earn some money to reduce their burden. Second, instead of spending so much time with friends, we should spend more with family. Third, train ourselves to give parents money when we start working.

Moreover, there are some guidelines for us to follow in family ethics. According to National Council on Family Relations, “Family life education includes knowledge about how families work; the inter-relationship of the family and society; human growth and development throughout the life span; both the physiological and psychological aspects of human sexuality; the impact of money and time management on daily life; the importance and value of education for parenting; the effects of policy and legislation on families; ethical considerations in professional conduct; and a solid understanding and knowledge of how to teach and/or develop curriculum for what are often sensitive and personal issues.” Following are the Ethical Principles for Parent and Family Life Educators:
I. Relationships with Parents and Families
1. I will be aware of the impact/power we have on parents and family relations.
2. I will strive to understand families as complex, interactive systems where parents have the primary responsibility as educators, nurturers and limit-setters for their children.
3. I will respect cultural beliefs, backgrounds and differences and engage in practice that is sensitive to the diversity of child-rearing values and goals.
4. I will help parents and other family members recognize their strengths and work with them to set goals for themselves, their children, and others.
5. I will respect and accept parents and other family members for who they are, recognizing their developmental level and circumstances.
6. I will support and challenge parents to continue to grow and learn about parenting and their child's development.
7. I will communicate respectfully and clearly with all family members.
8. I will communicate openly and truthfully about the nature and extent of services provided.
9. I will support diverse family values by acknowledging and examining parenting practices that support healthy family relationships.
10. I will include parents/other family members as partners in problem solving and decision-making related to program design and implementation.
11. I will be proactive in stating child guidance principles and discipline guidelines and encourage non-violent child rearing.
12. I will create data privacy and confidentiality guidelines respectful of family members and protective of their legal rights.
13. I will provide a program environment that is safe and nurturing to all family members.
14. I will ensure that all family members have access to and are encouraged to participate in family education.
15. I will support family members as they make decisions about the use of resources to best meet family needs.
16. I will support healthy interpersonal relationships among all family members.
17. I will encourage family members to explore their values and promote healthy sexuality in their family.

As a conclusion, family life education is a very important factor affecting personal ethics and business ethics. Thus, before concerning on organization ethics we should actually concern on how we treat our family members. As a human being, we always have unlimited opportunities and areas that we can improve to be a better person.  The time is always right to do what is right.-Martin Luther King

Be HAPPY! Why Not?

Happiness is something important to everyone of us. However, when we grow older, the meaning of happiness start changing. For a child, an i Pad in hand will bring them happiness. For an adult, sometimes he or she might not how to know whether he or she is happy. When a child laugh, definitely he is happy at that moment. However, an adult might have to smile most of the times even they are not really happy. So, what is happiness? Can it be determined by facial movement?

Happiness is always something chased by most people in this world. For me, happiness can be divided into two types, which are short term and long term happiness. I might feel relax or maybe happy when I skip my class, watch movies, spend money without considering much or waste time at mamak stall by blowing water. However, all these are just short term happiness which they cannot bring any advantage or good effect for my future. So, really, sometimes we should set a limit and maintain the balance between "what we like to do "and "what we should do".

For long term happiness, it is something that will last longer and even until future time. Normally, the things that we should do falls under this category. For example, if a girl choose a handsome but lazy stupid guy, she might enjoy happiness in short term which cannot last and they might fight with each other especially when there are financial problems. In another hand, she might enjoy long term happiness when she choose a good manner good attitude hardworking guy.

Besides, happiness is also related to total quality life. I attended a meaningful workshop last month which is "The Keys to Total Quality Life" seminar. The speaker is a doctor who owns few clinics in Kuala Lumpur and retired with financial freedom. He is currently an Amway Triple Diamond in Malaysia. He shares that Total Quality Life is “comfortable” and “meaningful” life but not equal to “luxury” life. Human basic needs are food, clothing, shelter and car. When we focus on quality, we want good quality food which is organic and balanced diet, better clothing, comfortable house and safer car. Basically, it all means money. Money is important but not the most important. And the final part he shares as a conclusion give a clear picture on what is Total Quality Life which he gains because of Amway:
1.       No worries about money for the rest of life
2.       Health and Beauty(Nutrilite and Artistry)
3.       Good Relationship, handling people and situations
4.       Social Health(Active social life, real friends)
5.       Mental and Emotional Health
6.       Helping Others which is the most satisfying and meaningful all the time
7.       Enriching People by adding values and uplifting people
8.       Free Quality Travel Every Year, See The wonders of The World
“You gain Total Quality Life, a life that is comfortable, colorful and meaningful. We are not in this world to compete with one another. We are in this world to COMPLETE with one another!” He also said that, “The only thing that overcomes hard luck is hard work. If you want to be successful, you must work. If you can succeed without work, it is a scam.” Attending these kinds of seminars it always makes me motivated and be more and more positive.

And to be a happy person, we must learn how to be positive. A negative person is always complaining, seeing the bad side of the world, demotivating he himself and others. If we are surrounded by these negative people, our emotions are influenced to be negative most of the time. Thus, before changing the world, let’s change from us ourselves! And maybe we cannot choose the people around us but we can change the people that we choose to be around. Keep ourselves motivated, happy and positive and influence the people around us to be better.  There are so many ways to keep ourselves positive:
1.       Attending motivational seminars
2.       Talk to a positive person when you face problems. Don’t talk to a negative one when you are unhappy, he will definitely make your day worse!
3.       Mix with positive friends
4.       Read some Motivational Books, Ex: The Magic, No Complains world
5.       Listen to motivational CDs
6.       Be grateful and thankful all the times
7.       SMILE always! It is free and sometimes you don’t really need a reason to smile. It is so simple and common thing that every positive person doing. At least, at the moment you smile, the people around you feel warmer and happier. “Let us always meet each other with smile, for the smile is the beginning of love”-Mother Teresa
8.       Read more at http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/m/mother_teresa.html#0jhrDfx8dkFV4Tsk.99
9.       Exercise regularly.
10.   Eat wisely because you are what you eat! A healthier person is always more positive. And when a person feel sick or feel stress, his emotion will be definitely affected.
11.   Choose the right food supplement. It can help us to be happier; ex at every stage in a woman's life, her body's needs change - sometimes from minute to minute. NUTRILITE Black Cohosh and Soy is specially formulated to help menopausal women feel their best. Besides, B Complex are very famous to help reducing stress which consists of B1 (improves mood and is vital to nerve function); B3 (regulates sleep), B6 (for optimum production of serotonin)  and  B12 (helps produce "feel good" brain chemicals).
12.   Get enough sleep
13.   Remove the causes of stress, for example, change jobs, and implement better time management and personal organization.
14.   Choose a positive environment to continue learning and improving yourself, for example, involving in religious activities and Amway Learning Centre activities or good camps.
All these thirteen steps are what I am doing to keep myself happy and positive. And I notice that the people who really take care of their health are actually those who are happier and more positive people, especially my friends in Diploma class(Diploma in Preventive Health and nutrition) . My classmates are from different age groups which are from 18 to 50. And these are the people who are really concern on health and willing to do something for their health and that’s why they stay healthier than their friends.  During lunch time, we share with each other on the ways to eat healthier and some housewives students bring their delicious nutritional home cook and share with all of us. What we talk about is about health and nutrition and how we can help others achieving better health and we never talk about bad things of others and negative things on news or country. That is a really positive healthy environment. It is very important to keep learning and changing and improving to be better. The stages of our lives are filled with many first times. I always tell my friends that health and nutrition is a lesson that every one must learn in their lives. I love what my teacher said, “The best doctor for my body is ME myself, the best clinic in the world is my kitchen, the best medicine is my food!” It is so true that we cannot just depending on doctors or parents to take care of our health, we ourselves have to take responsibilities for it.
As a conclusion, happiness is something that we have to learn continuously. As we will face different situations in different stages of our lives, the way we think differ from time to time.  Lastly, I would like to share with you the famous quotes by Dalai Lama, “ The purpose of our lives is to be happy.” And  “Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.”

The Choice IS In Your Hand!

I always heard that people left their jobs because feeling bored or stressful. But recently, I heard about a different reason from my christian friend. He shares with me that there are so many accountants left their jobs when they found themselves guilty in cheating on tax for company profits. They felt uncomfortable on what they are doing but they have no other choices as their duties include protect company profits. Thus, the only thing they can do is just leave the company and find another job.

I understand that it is too difficult for organizations to being hundred percent ethical. They might cheat consumers on the results, the ingredients, the weight and so on. They might also be unethical to employees, do not keep their promises to employees and so on.

Actually, we always have a choice and the choice is always in our hand. In dramas and movies, there are bad characters who doing something bad and claim that they have no other choices but actually they have the choice to do or not to do. All the excuses given are just to make themselves feel more comfortable, like "I need to do this so that I get enough money for my son to study/to cure his diseases" and so on.

Since I was in primary school, I always concern about health and nutrition. My big dream is ensure all my family members, relatives and friends stay healthy always. My ambition is to be nutritionist who helps people to be healthier and happier. I believe that happiness is always influenced by health status. I did not have an opportunity to study full time nutrition course but I did look for alternative ways which I earn some money and manage to finish my part time diploma in nutrition. Currently, I am so proud to be a certified nutrition consultant and I start turning my family members to have healthier and healthier lifestyle. My teacher always tell me that solutions are always more than question. Really, we always have a choice!

Nowadays, high nutrition value-food are more expensive than the rest. An apple itself already cost RM1 plus and all the organic fruits and vegetables are sold at a higher price. Well, in this real business world, maybe we cannot decide the price of the things we want but we can decide how much we want to earn! Losers keep on complaining everything while winners already look for ways to be better.

Many of us are getting closer and closer to the graduation, which means that we will be employees and work in an organization. I will definitely do not say good things about an organization if I feel it is bad. I still remembered that when I was a promoter for Boss Coffee at Jaya Jusco, my duty is to promote it and tell people about its benefits. However, I have some basic knowledge on nutrition and I classify it as "unhealthy beverage" in my mind. Thus, I did not act aggressively and actually I just pretend to be aggressive when auditors come. In my opinion, it is normal that people love to share good things but do not want to share bad things. It is human nature. Thus, as an organization, whatever product they are selling, they have to be ethical so that the employees are happy to do their jobs. However, there are companies who keep advertising on the strength of product until consumers think it is good but actually it is not good.

Sometimes, companies blame that that is their choices to consume it. Consumers are taking it on their own risk. For example, panadol has so many side effects which are written so clearly in the details but still there are so many people taking it. Yes, it helps to solve certain problems but why not look at better alternative ways? They can actually choose to take natural food supplements which have no side effects to help improving their problems. Thus, the choice is always in consumers' hands! If there are no consumers, the product will not be there. In other words, "bad" products are produced because of those who wanted to consume it. Maybe the companies are not unethical, they are just producing something that someones want. They are"helping" them to have an opportunity to consume it.

The companies are having choices also. Produce a unhealthy product or healthy-look product or produce a real healthy product or produce a true organic good quality product? It is all depending on how the company decide to be.

Personally, I choose to be an independent business owner which I would love to be Amway's partner. So far I found Amway ethical and they are really doing things which helps people living better lives. But what if one day I found it changes and being unethical? First thing I would do is to find out the truth and improve the situation, if really cannot do anything and I cannot accept it then I will quit it as choice is always in my hands. Currently, I have strong confidence in Amway and I would like to pay hard work to succeed in Amway business. Before selecting where to work, it is actually more important to know and do proper research on the particular companies

As a conclusion, we always have a choice in either consuming products or selecting companies. Try to do something good and it is important to make ourselves have the choice to do the good things. When you have no choice, do something to change your situation so that you have some choices.

Be Independent!

In  previous lesson, we discussed about marriage issues. From my neighborhood and family tree, I did observe a lot since I was in primary school. Good couples and bad-ending ones are around us all the time. Not only talking about married couples but also not yet married ones. Some people might say it is very common that rich man will have more than one wife. However, the truth is ? Obviously, it is not just about wealth.

Ethical or being unethical? That is not my concern because human beings always have the ability to give excuses. Arguing? For what?

From my opinion, prevention is always better than cure no matter in what areas. Let me share this with all the girls: When one day we choose to marry with someone, we can say that he is a good guy thus we choose him from the whole world. However, there is a possibility that the "good" guy will change. Thus, why not prepare the umbrella before it rains. It might not be raining but at least you are prepared and you will have the ability to face it and this is very important than what we can imagine.

Let's be INDEPENDENT !

To be independent, first, do not easily get influenced by others in thinking and acting. Second, do not rely on others' aid or support. Following are some tips for everyone especially those who already in a relationship to be more independent which acts as a reminder for myself too:
1.  Keep expanding social circle: Having a relationship or get married is just one part of our lives, we should always maintain the balance between families, friends, career and personal dream and interests. And keep knowing new friends is very important because the most popular disease in next 10 years will be diseases on mindset but not on bodies. The best way to get rid of mentality problems is to talk to a stranger every day. When we keep knowing new people, we will be happier and more open-minded as communication and socializing is actually one of the human basic needs.
2. Do new things: Always challenge ourselves to do something we never done before. Challenges are something which help us to move forward. When we manage to overcome the challenges, self satisfaction and happiness will appear.
3. Lifelong learning: Knowledge is power. Keep ourselves updated and keep learning no matter how old we are. Continuous learning is a part of our lives. It is never too late to learn something you want. My mother is always a good example. When she was young, she has no chance to study and she always hope to learn English. And now she is more than 45 years young, still she is so hardworking and willing to spend time on learning english although she does not have good memory compare to those days.
4. Educate yourself on money: Money might not be the most important thing in our lives but it is very very very important. When your palm faces upside(asking for money), it might be a good feeling for someone but not as good as the feeling when palm facing down(giving to someone).  Always prepare yourself in this real world. There are still quite some women who lost their confidence, lost their abilities after not working for so many years and when one day something happen on their partners, they are not prepared to overcome it.

As a conclusion, we have responsibility to care of ourselves and we should be independent. When others willing to take care of us, including parents, siblings, life partners, teachers and friends, we should be very very grateful. And I still remember a quote," Teach him on how to fish instead of feeding him." This quote shows the importance of being independent.
